How to Extend Battery life on an Android tablet PC?
« on: May 20, 2012, 05:51:51 PM »
How to Extend Battery Life Make the battery last longer on your tablet PC.

Tablet PCs are portable only as long as the battery will last.  Although the ARM processors use minimal power, and the tablets are designed for a long lasting battery, there are some self defeating settings that will consume more battery life than what is needed.

Here are some tips for adjusting your tablet settings to get more battery life.
  • The display is the largest consumer of battery juice.
    • Change the Brightness setting for the display:
      • Touch Apps located in the top right corner of the device while on the home screen.
      • Locate the Settings icon and open the settings menu.
      • Touch Screen.
      • Touch Brightness. The best setting is Auto Brightness, this will use the light sensor to automatically set the brightness based on the current lighting conditions of the surrounding area.
    • Change the Screen Timeout setting:
      • Touch Apps  located in the top right corner of the device while on the home screen.
      • Locate the Settings  icon and open the settings menu.
      • Touch  Screen.
      • Touch  Timeout. Set the screen timeout to the lowest level which is comfortable for you.
  • If you are not using the Bluetooth feature, turn it off since it is consuming power while looking for another Bluetooth device to pair with:
    • Touch Apps located in the top right corner of the device while on the home screen.
    • Locate the Settings icon and open the settings menu.
    • Touch Wireless & networks.
    • Touch Bluetooth settings.
    • Touch Bluetooth  to turn off the transmitter.
  • The Wi-Fi radio also consumes power - when not in use, disable Wi-Fi to save more battery life:
    • Touch Apps located in the top right corner of the device while on the home screen.
    • Locate the Settings icon and open the settings menu.
    • Touch Wireless & networks.
    • Touch Wi-Fi  to turn on or turn off  Wi-Fi networks.
  • The GPS also consumes power whether it is being used or not.  If you are not using the GPS, turn it off to preserve power:
    • Touch Apps located in the top right corner of the device while on the home screen.
    • Locate the Settings icon and open the settings menu.
    • Touch Location & Security.
    • Uncheck Use GPS satelites.
  • The Hotspot feature will also consume battery life while constantly transmitting and looking for devices.  Turn this off if you are not using it:
    • Touch Apps located in the top right corner of the device while on the home screen.
    • Locate the Settings icon and open the settings menu.
    • Touch Wireless & Networks.
    • Touch Tethering & Portable hotspot.
    • If you are not using this feature, it is recommended that you turn it off by unchecking  Portable Wi-Fi hotspot.
  • Several apps can drain battery life while running, it is recommended that you stop any apps that are running and not used:
    • Touch Apps located in the top right corner of the device while on the home screen.
    • Locate the Settings icon and open the settings menu.
    • Touch Applications.
    • Touch Running services.
    • Select the application running and touch Stop.
NOTE: It is recommended that you only shut down applications that you have downloaded from the Market or from a 3rd party.
  • Your tablet has a Battery Use feature that will show you what is using battery life.  You can use this feature to see what are the big consumers of battery life and shut them down:
    • Touch Apps located in the top right corner of the device while on the home screen.
    • Locate the Settings icon and open the settings menu.
    • Touch Applications.
    • Touch Battery use.
